How to Obtain a Police Clearance Certificate in Beijing China?

A police certificate is a document that reflects any arrests when you were living in a particular region. China allows you to request a background check from the Public Security Bureau (PSB) for Visa or Immigration purposes.

Steps to request Police Certificate

The following are the basic steps to complete your request for a record clearance check.

STEP1: Background Check by Public Security Bureau (PSB)

Electronic submissions are not available for expats. You need to present in person at Public Security Bureau (PSB) to submit the application or authorize a third-party to submit on your behalf.

The processing time for PSB is 3-4 business days.

Document Checklist:

*Completed filled Request Form

*Original or Passport Copy (photo page, China visa, and exit/entry pages), varies by city.

*Power of Attorney and the original ID of the representative if requested by a third party.

STEP2: Notarial Certificate by Notary Public Office

After you have obtained the Police Certificate by Public Security Bureau (PSB), you will need to submit it to Notary Public Office in China for notarization, so that the notarial certificate can be used abroad.

The processing time for Notary is around 5-10 business days.

Document Checklist:

*Completed filled Request Form

*Passport Copy (photo page, China visa, and exit/entry pages)

*Temporary residence registration form (TRRF)

*Work permit/study permit/reunion permit

*Power of Attorney and the original ID of the representative if requested by a third-party.

STEP3: Ministry of Foreign Affairs Authentication

The document you receive from the Notary is not the actual Apostille. As such, if you need this additional service, you will need to submit it to Ministry of Foreign Affairs for authentication.

2. Scan Copy of Temporary Residence Registration Form (TRRF)
